Dog Days of Summer

With the mention of a heat wave beginning on the 4th of July weekend, I must admit I was incredibly excited.  Last year’s 4th was cold and rainy which is simply unpatriotic in my opinion.  The entire Northeast was blessed with perfect BBQ and swimming weather, which is great for us humans, yet rough on our four-legged friends.  I spent the holiday weekend in Clayton, NY, and when the pups weren’t inside enjoying central air, Apollo and older brother Hercules maxed out on the deck in order to stay cool.

The big Hercy-boy is Jared’s first dog and is 12 years young.  Still so cute!

Love those droopy eyes

And introducing APOLLO!!  I got in a lot of trouble with my pooch when the first dog featured on my blog was Apollo’s handsome friend, Barley.  Thankfully, Pauly forgave me and although he was hot, tired and thirsty, he willingly returned to his cute self to put his best face forward for the blog.

Rockin’ the white mustache already at the age of 4.

With the summer heat in full force, one of Apollo’s favorite things to do is swim.  Like a typical lab, the water is his drug.  I’d been wanting to take him swimming at a nearby park for weeks but it was just too hot and humid for him (and me) to bear.  Finally, this past Sunday, we were able to take him to Stoddard’s Neck before it got too hot so he could get his fix!

Seriously, he is a stud.  And no, I am not bias.

Thankfully, the park wasn’t as packed as it usually is on the weekends but we did see some interesting dogs.  This is Bella and she is a Chinese Shar-pei.  I was completely fascinated by all those wrinkles and her stubby little snout!  I think she was equally intrigued by me because when she was swimming in front of me and could hear my shutter go off, she would immediately face the camera and start walking towards me!  She knew how to work it!

Another beautiful pooch

Also spotted at the dog park, not one, but TWO hairless dogs!  Craziest looking dogs I have ever seen.  Didn’t want to snap many pictures of them, as they were incredibly scary looking and I feared for my life (exaggerating? slightly).  Upon further research, it looks like one was a Peruvian Inca Orchid and the other was a Peruvian Hairless dog (below).

Is it any surprise that the World’s Ugliest Dog* title usually goes to a hairless dog?

*DISCLOSURE* – Please don’t google this on a full stomach.
