Hello faithful blog readers!!

I apologize for leaving you hanging over the past few weeks. There is a TON of behind the scenes work going on that will hopefully be completed by November 15th. There will be a new name, new blog and, most importantly, a new partner in crime.

What’s that you say? The suspense is killing you?!? Ok, I’ll give you a hint. My new business partner is incredibly good-looking, talented, smart, funny and just so happens to live in the same apartment as I do. And no, it’s not Apollo.

So please bear with us while we are in construction mode – you won’t want to miss the big reveal!!

Happy First Birthday Isabelle!

I can’t believe that October 20, 2010 is here. October 20, 2009 was a day that tested my patience. I went to work knowing Isabelle was going to arrive in a matter of hours. And I waited. Checked my phone for the 30th time in as many minutes and waited some more. Then, finally, it came. The picture I was waiting for. A perfect, healthy, beautiful baby girl staring back at me from the screen of my Blackberry. I teared up a little as I walked into my boss’s office proclaiming, “Just look at her! Isn’t she just perfect!” And perfect she was.

The first time I held her, she fell asleep in my arms. I looked down at her and stared for as long as I could so I could always remember that moment. Freeze time. So she would stay that little baby forever in my mind.

And yet here we are, October 20th, 2010. She walks and talks and is growing like a weed. Her hair grows longer and curlier each time I see her. She’d rather be romping around the house then be held as she falls asleep. Yet last month when I visited, I was able to freeze another moment in time. I was down on the floor with Isabelle as she crawled about playing with her toys. Snapping away behind my camera, I took it away from my face for a moment as she got closer. She swung her chubby arms up towards my face and settled them around my neck. Our first hug.

While I can’t wait to watch her grow and teach her to be a soccer and basketball superstar like her mommy and god-mommy, I always want to remember her being this little. So I keep taking pictures of her every chance I get and even without the camera, I’ll keep freezing these moments in time. So she’ll be little forever.

Here we are in early January, when my hand could cover her whole body!

Announcing: Isabelle week!

In celebration of the upcoming FIRST birthday of my darling god-daughter, I’m declaring this Isabelle week on the blog! I can already hear my mom saying, “What?!? I brought you into this world and I don’t get a week dedicated to me on your blog?!?” Yes, mom, that is correct. And no, that doesn’t sanction you taking me out of this world.

So, let us start from the beginning. It was Isabelle’s first full day at home, and she made sure her parents didn’t sleep a wink the night before. After being fussy all night, she had no problem snoozing on and off all day.

Amrita and Izi’s Sangeet

Since I already introduced you to the beautiful Amrita when she got her bridal mendhi done, it won’t come as a surprise to you that I’m posting a TON of pictures from her Sangeet! I couldn’t resist - Amrita is just too gorgeous!

What you don’t see in these next sets is the nervousness that Amrita was feeling in the pit of her stomach. She was so anxious and excited for Izi’s grand entrance later that night.

Then it was time to finally get the party started! The evening began with dancing and singing by the females on Amrita’s side of the family.

And finally, the moment everyone was waiting for… Izi’s arrival!

Sure Amrita was having a good time with her family and friends before Izi’s arrival but that anxiousness didn’t fade until he was finally there. It was so cute to see her immediately become relaxed and overjoyed simply by his presence.

Driving down North Catherine Street and approaching the intersection with Broad, the sun was beaming on a beautiful fall day. The streets were quite as most students had taken advantage of the first long weekend of the semester to go home. Not me, home was the same town I went to college in.

So driving to campus on that Saturday morning I thought what a perfect weekend it would be for a hike. Fall foliage was at it’s peak and the forecast showed nothing but pure sunshine.

I arrived at campus to meet up with Jared and Taylor, my economics study buddies (Taylor and I go way back to modified soccer and we met Jared the previous fall in Finance class). We small talked, studied and small talked a little more until it became time to leave. Commenting on the perfect weather, Jared mentionned it would be a perfect weekend for a hike. Trying to contain my excitement, I agreed and we made plans to do just that.

Let’s just say the sun wasn’t the only thing beaming on my drive home. My crush on Jared resurfaced before school even started when I saw him walk into the gym with a friend. His long, lacrosse hair was buzzed off, making me do a double take as he walked through the door. My pace on the elliptical slowed as my heart pounded faster. He came over to ask how my summer was and tell me about the apartment that he was moving into with his lacrosse buddies and that I should stop over. ”Yeah, sure,” was all I could muster while sweating profusely and feeling like my heart was going to explode. He smiled and said it was good to see me as he made his way toward the free weights. A smile crept onto my face, as I tried to dissect what just happened. It was then that I truly understood what “out of sight, out of mind” meant.

I made a CD for the drive to Giant Mountain, all the latest pop and rap songs, of course. Conversation was light as my mind raced, thinking about what the day would bring.

From the moment we hit the trails, we started talking. About growing up, sports, family and everything in between. He let me take the lead and only later did I find out that he did this so he could stare at my butt in my hiking pants. A true gentleman, really. He also came to regret the fact that he let me lead, as he had to keep up. I was in shape since basketball tryouts were starting that week. Jared told me later how he was thinking about how my pace was effortlessly fast and that he couldn’t complain, because he was trying to impress me.

We got to the top and the foliage was everything I hoped it would be.

We ate our peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and relaxed at the top of the mountain, taking in the views. Even with my crummy point and shoot, I had to get some we-made-it-to-the-top pics. So I passed the camera to Jared so he could take a picture of me:

And somehow I was able to muster up the confidence to get one of us together, and I’m so glad I did. This is our first picture together:

We made our way down the mountain and somehow took the wrong path and had to double back. It took us twice as long to get down as it did up but that didn’t matter. I wasn’t thinking about the back of my heals where I was losing skin with every step. I was caught up in conversation and my thoughts that brought a smile to my face as Jared led us down the mountain.

We finally made it back to my car and drove home signing along to rap songs and laughing the whole way. I’d like to say from that point on we were inseperable and we were, as friends. The relationship wouldn’t happen for a few more months but that doesn’t matter now.

Now, four years later, he’s still asleep at 10am while I write this. I picked him up from the subway last night and brought the kleenex like he asked. I dropped him off at home as I went to the store for chicken noodle soup, Gatorade, OJ and NyQuil. I warmed up his soup and made sure he got to bed early.

I had hoped to go to a pumpkin patch or apple orchard today, as Jared has been craving to get some fresh apple cider donuts. Once again, the sun is shining and it’s a beautiful fall day. It’s another October 9th that I’ll get to spend with him, if he ever gets out of bed. But this October 9th, it’s more. I’m his future wife, he’s my future husband. And we’ll have plenty of October days to enjoy in the years to come.

It’s a Mendhi Party!

When I first came in contact with Binita, one of the very first compliments I gave her was on the spectacular detail that she captured in her mendhi shots. Little did I know that just a month later, I would be working alongside Binita at a Mendhi Ceremony, capturing the details myself!

This is Amrita and yes, she is that gorgeous in real life. She was surrounded my her family and friends, who broke out in song and even a little dance to celebrate the occasion as she got her bridal mendhi done.

Manisha Trivedi was the talented artist at work here and I was BLOWN AWAY by her talent and precision in making such beautiful art! If you’re as curious as I was about what the ink is made if, click here for Manisha’s description.

Welcome to the Big Leagues

So it’s time I stepped my game up over here. And when I go for something, it’s all or nothing so, all it was! In a matter of one week, I purchased a new camera and a new computer. Not just any camera or computer. Only the best! (well for what the fiance and I can almost afford ) So without further ado, I introduce to you my new best friend:

THE D700!

Honestly, it was love at the first press of the shutter. As I so eloquently described to my friends, it makes the most BEAUTIFUL sound when snaps a picture ” CA-RUNCH! Just like a cracker!” (yes, that is how I really described it). You see I have a small obsession with the simplest of noises. Another example? You know the noise your turning signal makes in your car? Yup, I’m a huge fan of that and have been known to judge a car solely on the sound it produces. I digress…

Back to my new love affair, the D700. Beyond the wonderful CA-RUNCH (think Wheat Thin), it takes the creamiest, dreamiest images with my 50mm f1.8 lens attached. See those cookies? I mean you can REALLY see those cookies (and even a crumb)!

After taking the picture and viewing it for the first time I proceeded to show my dad.

Me: See Dad LOOK at how awesome that is!

Dad: Uh, yeah, Deb those are cookies… (said in the “I’m not thrilled/you’re kind of crazy” voice)

Ok so my Dad isn’t going to appreciate the amazing depth of field and precision focus that I just captured, I’m ok with that. But come on, that’s crazy!

The other big-ticket item new to the Burns/Davis household is the iMac desktop computer. In a nutshell? Lifesaver and game changer. SERIOUSLY! My old computer had a previous life with my older brother before it came into my hands last spring. I was pumped at the time – free computer fully equipped with Photoshop – sweet! Then I started loading it with pictures (I know, tisk, tisk), and editing away in Photoshop and it became progressively slower and slower. Just before we got the new computer, I was convinced the computer was going to explode. Simply opening Photoshop would make the computer launch into a loud hum, similar to what I think The Little Engine that Could would have sounded like had he not been able to utter the words “I think I can, I think I can.” So with a full weekend of events coming up, we bought the iMac along with expedited shipping!

Being the PC girl who I’ve been for a while, I asked Jared where the big box (apparently named a system unit) was once he put it all together. I got the sideways glare as he said, “It’s right there.” As in the monitor? That’s it? But where do you plug stuff in? How do you burn CDs? Where is the power button?!?!

Then I turned the monitor around and it was, in fact, all there. WOW. That’s cool. Oh and the USB plugs in the keyboard? – doubly cool.

So it’s nice to have a working computer that doesn’t take 10 minutes to start while asking you a series of questions about if you would like to proceed on low memory or not. Nope, not going to miss that PC.

*Disclosure: That desk is NEVER that clean. What has been so conveniently cropped out is the stacks of everything that was on the desk which is now on the side tables Just keepin’ it real for ya, blog world.

So Long Summer

While Fall is undoubtedly my favorite season, I have yet to accept the fact that it’s here! I feel like I blinked in June and now it’s the end of September! Summer is bidding us a nice farewell in Boston today, as the temps are going to reach 80 and the sun will be shining all day long.
